Honda HRV Overheating Error
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Honda HRV is experiencing an overheating error, and the initial suspicion is a bypass valve issue. However, further investigation suggests that the problem might be related to the vacuum system, as similar symptoms were resolved in another vehicle by addressing vacuum line issues. Ultimately, the problem is traced to a faulty sensor causing a misread, which is resolved by resetting the system, resulting in no repair costs.

Thanks for the quick response! Coolant levels seem fine, but I have noticed a bit of power loss lately, especially when accelerating. How did you eventually figure out it was the vacuum system on your Insignia?

Acknowledged. The diagnostic process involved a systematic evaluation of the vacuum lines and associated components for leaks and integrity. Given the mileage on your HRV (180644 km), a thorough inspection of the vacuum system is advisable. However, without access to specialized diagnostic equipment, pinpointing the precise fault location can be challenging. Based on my experience, I recommend seeking counsel from a qualified technician to perform a comprehensive assessment of the engine's control system. It could prevent consequential damage.

Okay, that's really helpful. I appreciate you sharing your experience. Took it to a workshop and you were spot on. Turns out the bypass valve issue was indeed a ghost – a faulty sensor was throwing everything off. Repair cost was literally zero because it was just a misread, but they reset the system. Thanks again!

Greetings. The symptoms you describe resemble an issue I encountered previously with my 2014 Opel Insignia, which also presented with error codes and overheating. In my case, the bypass valve malfunction was a consequential error, stemming from a failure within the vacuum system. Have you observed any indications of a coolant leak or power loss, or perhaps experienced engine stalling? The root cause may lie elsewhere in the system.
