Honda Jazz rough idle and power loss

I've got a 2013 Honda Jazz with a gasoline engine that's causing me some headaches. It's done 200225 km. Recently, the check engine light came on, and the engine is running really rough, especially at idle. When I try to accelerate, it feels like the car is jerking. I've also noticed a drop in engine power. I'm thinking it might be a combustion misfire, maybe even a defective injector? Has anyone experienced similar issues?

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Honda Jazz with a gasoline engine is experiencing rough idling, jerking during acceleration, and a loss of power, accompanied by a check engine light. The initial suspicion is a combustion misfire or a defective injector. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by identifying a faulty fuel injector through a professional diagnostic test. It is recommended to seek a professional diagnosis to accurately identify and resolve the issue, which in this case was confirmed to be a defective injection valve on the 1st cylinder.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, a diesel, although the symptoms were nearly identical: rough idle, check engine light, jerking acceleration. In my case, it turned out to be a fuel injector problem. But it could also be ignition coils. Have you checked those?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the ignition coils yet, but I will add it to my checklist. How did you eventually figure out it was the fuel injector on your Astra? Were there any specific tests you did, or did you just take it to a mechanic?

I tried a few things, but honestly, without the proper diagnostic tools, it was mostly guesswork. I eventually took it to a workshop. They ran a diagnostic test that pinpointed the faulty injector. Given your symptoms and the mileage, I'd strongly recommend getting a professional diagnosis. It'll save you a lot of time and potential frustration. I ended up paying around 650€ for the repair including labor and parts.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! I was hoping to avoid the workshop, but it sounds like that's the best course of action. I'll book it in and see what they say. The diagnostic test showed a defective injection valve on the 1st cylinder. With labor and parts, the repair ended up costing me 515€. Hopefully, this will improve the throttle response!
