Honda Jazz Stalling & Shaking: Fuel System Nightmare?

Hey everyone! I'm having serious trouble with my 2019 Honda Jazz (7,813 KM, gas engine) and need some advice. The car's been acting up lately, engine light is on, power feels weak, and it's running super rough. It keeps jerking when I accelerate and can't even idle properly without shaking or stalling. My last mechanic visit wasn't great, so I'm a bit hesitant to go back. I suspect it might be the tank ventilation system leaking, but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their Jazz? What was the actual problem and how much did it cost to fix? Thanks in advance for any help!

Hey there! I had very similar symptoms with my 2016 Honda Civic last month, engine light, rough idle, jerking during acceleration, the whole deal. The diagnosis showed a faulty activated carbon filter in the tank ventilation system. My mechanic explained that when this filter fails, it messes with the fuel system pressure and air-fuel mixture, causing all those symptoms you described. It wasn't a super serious issue, but definitely needed fixing to prevent long-term engine damage. In my case, they replaced the activated carbon filter and purge valve, then reset the engine control unit. After the repair, my car ran smooth as new. The symptoms matched yours exactly, so it might be worth checking those components. I'd suggest getting a diagnostic scan first to confirm. And yeah, finding a trustworthy mechanic is key, had to switch garages myself before finding a good one. Good luck with the repair!

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's exactly what I needed to hear, your symptoms match mine perfectly. I'm definitely going to get those components checked out first. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other issues pop up?

Hey again! Just wanted to follow up, I'm really glad my experience helped! After getting it fixed, everything's been running like a dream. The repair was money well spent, €275 for replacing the activated carbon filter, which turned out to be the culprit just like my mechanic suspected. Haven't had a single problem since then, no more jerking, rough idle, or any of those annoying symptoms we discussed. It's actually a pretty common issue with these fuel systems, but once it's fixed properly, you shouldn't have any more troubles. My Civic's been purring like a kitten for the past month, and the fuel economy seems better too. Definitely worth every cent of that repair bill! Hope you get yours sorted soon, let us know how it goes after you get it checked out!

Thanks so much for all the info! I actually just got back from a new mechanic I found, and you won't believe it, it was exactly what you described! The activated carbon filter was completely clogged. The total bill came to about 300 bucks, which wasn't too bad considering how much better the car runs now. No more shaking, no more jerking, and the engine light's finally off. The mechanic I found was super thorough and even showed me the old filter, it was in pretty rough shape. Funny how we had the same issue! Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the confidence to get it checked out instead of putting it off. The car's running like new again, and I couldn't be happier with the result. Thanks again for helping me figure this out! You saved me a lot of worry and probably some money too by pointing me in the right direction.
