Honda Mobilio crankshaft sensor issue

Hi, I have a 2017 Honda Mobilio diesel. Recently, the check engine light comes on, and I've noticed reduced engine power, poor engine response, and higher fuel consumption. The error code points towards a crankshaft to camshaft reference value issue. The car has 61973 km. Could a defective crankshaft sensor be the culprit?

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Honda Mobilio diesel exhibited symptoms such as a check engine light, reduced engine power, poor response, and increased fuel consumption, with an error code indicating a crankshaft to camshaft reference value issue. The problem was suspected to be a defective crankshaft sensor, which was confirmed after a workshop inspection. Replacing the crankshaft sensor resolved the issue, restoring the engine's performance.

I had similar symptoms on my 2014 Opel Astra. Check engine light, power loss, and the error was related to engine synchronization. In my case, the crankshaft sensor was indeed faulty. It might be worth checking the sensor's wiring and connections before replacing it. A faulty timing belt or chain can also trigger this code. How old is your timing belt?

Thanks for the info! I'm not sure about the timing belt. I haven't replaced it since I bought the car. Is there an easy way to check the timing belt's condition myself, or is it better to just replace the crankshaft sensor first?

Checking the timing belt can be tricky without proper tools. Given the symptoms and the error code, and that your car has some mileage on it, a faulty crankshaft sensor is the more likely cause. However, a worn timing belt can cause the same issues, so it's something to keep in mind. Replacing the sensor yourself is possible if you are familiar with the process, but it is advisable to take the car to a workshop.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and it was indeed the crankshaft sensor. The total repair cost was 340€. Replacing the sensor fixed the issue, and the engine runs smoothly again.
