Honda Stream EGR Valve Issue
Summary of the thread
The 2010 Honda Stream is experiencing significant engine issues, including reduced power, excessive smoke, rough running, and poor fuel consumption, likely due to a faulty EGR valve. The symptoms align with a jammed or gunked-up EGR valve, which can cause power loss and engine struggles, especially at low RPMs. Cleaning the valve might be a temporary fix, but replacement is often necessary if the valve is too damaged. After replacing the EGR valve, the vehicle's performance issues were resolved.

Yeah, exactly that! Struggles like mad at low RPMs. Was yours a total replacement job then, or did you manage to clean it out? And did you notice any loud hissing sounds when accelerating, I forgot to mention that? I'm dreading taking it for its emissions test now!

I tried cleaning it on the Saab, but it was too far gone. Ended up replacing the whole EGR valve. As for the hissing, I didn't have that exactly, but definitely a noticeable change in engine noise. Honestly, with those symptoms, and if cleaning doesn't work, you're probably looking at a new EGR valve. Get it booked into a workshop. Could save you headaches down the line.

Cheers for the advice. Much appreciated! Got it diagnosed. You were spot on – EGR valve was toast. 355€ later and it's all sorted. Runs like a dream now.

Sounds rough. I had similar grief with my old Saab 9-3 diesel a few years back. Check engine light, power loss, the whole shebang. Smoke on acceleration too. Initially, I suspected a vacuum leak somewhere in the recirculation system, but it turned out to be the EGR valve gunked up. Does it feel like it's struggling, especially at lower RPMs?
