Honda Stream Engine Stalls and Power Loss

My 2014 Honda Stream, gasoline engine, with 228344 km is showing a check engine light, engine stalls at idle, and reduced power. I suspect a defective fuel pressure regulator, possibly from a fuel filter replacement. Anyone seen this?

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Honda Stream with a gasoline engine and high mileage exhibited symptoms of engine stalling at idle, reduced power, and a check engine light. The initial suspicion was a defective fuel pressure regulator, possibly linked to a recent fuel filter replacement. Diagnostic checks revealed fluctuating fuel pressure readings and error codes pointing to the regulator. After consulting a technician, the faulty fuel pressure regulator was replaced, resolving the issue and restoring smooth engine performance.

I experienced similar symptoms with my Stream, though I can't recall the exact mileage. The check engine light illuminated intermittently, and I noticed a slight hesitation during acceleration. Did you happen to measure the fuel pressure before suspecting the regulator? A pressure drop could also indicate a fuel pump issue.

I did a diagnostic check, which revealed fluctuating fuel pressure readings – significantly below the specified range, especially during idle. The error codes pointed towards the fuel pressure regulator. Are you suggesting the fuel pump might be a secondary or even the primary culprit despite the regulator-specific error codes?

While the error codes do lean towards the regulator, the fuel pump's health can indirectly affect the regulator's performance. Given the age and mileage of our Streams, it might be prudent to have a mechanic inspect both components. A faulty fuel pump struggling to maintain adequate pressure could manifest as regulator issues. If you are not familiar with such things, it is best to just visit an expert.

Thanks for the insights! I consulted a technician. The diagnosis confirmed a faulty fuel pressure regulator, and replacing it for 45€ resolved the issue. The engine now runs smoothly, and the check engine light is off. Thanks again for your guidance!
