Honda Stream Stalling Idle Air Control Valve
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Honda Stream with a gasoline engine experienced a persistent check engine light and stalling at idle, with an error indicating an issue with the idle air control valve (IACV). Potential causes discussed included a contaminated intake manifold, throttle body carbon buildup, and vacuum leaks. The solution involved inspecting and confirming a heavily contaminated intake and a compromised IACV, leading to its replacement.

Good point about the throttle body and vacuum leaks! I focused on the IACV. If it was the throttle body, wouldn't I see issues beyond idle? And besides hissing, what are signs of vacuum leaks?

Throttle body contamination is prominent when the throttle is closed, hence the stalling. Hissing is a start for vacuum leaks, but they're sometimes subtle. A lean-running condition on an OBD scanner can also point to a vacuum leak. Maybe a workshop visit is warranted?

Your insights were invaluable! I had it inspected, and the diagnosis confirmed a heavily contaminated intake. The idle air control valve was compromised and needed replacement. The total repair was 425€. Thank you for guiding me to a resolution!

A stalling engine and idle air control valve error suggest intake issues. Before replacing the valve, check the throttle body for carbon buildup. A dirty throttle body can mimic a faulty IACV. Also, check for vacuum leaks, as they can cause similar problems.
