Hot-running 2018 Audi A6 diesel with constantly low coolant level

Hey guys, I have a small problem with my 2018 Audi A6 diesel (approx. 43,416 km run). It runs hot and the coolant level is also constantly low. I suspect it might be due to a functional restriction of the radiator shutter, but I'm not sure. Have any of you had this before and if so, what did your garage do? After my last visit to my mechanic, I couldn't really put much faith in him. I would be very grateful for your advice and experience!

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Audi A6 diesel is experiencing overheating and consistently low coolant levels. The suspected cause is a functional restriction of the radiator shutter. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by addressing a leak in the cooling system and replacing the cooling system assembly. It is advised to have the cooling system thoroughly checked, focusing on the radiator shutter and possibly faulty sensors, to prevent further engine damage.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey buddy, I had a similar problem with my 2015 Audi A3. My car was also running hot and there was a constant loss of coolant. After some research and a thorough check, it turned out that the problem was a leak in the cooling system. The garage had to do a lot of work to fix it - they ended up having to replace the entire cooling system assembly. It was definitely a serious problem because it could affect the life of the engine if it wasn't fixed in time. Maybe you could take your car to the garage and ask them to check the cooling system in more detail. Hope that helps you out buddy!

Hey, thanks for your reply and advice. That's not exactly what I wanted to hear, but it's certainly important to get it checked as soon as possible. Can you perhaps remember how much the whole thing cost you? And have there been any other problems with the cooling or engine area since then? I want to be sure that my car will really run smoothly again after the repair.

Hey, no problem. After the visit to my mechanic, the functional restriction of the radiator shutter was fixed and I haven't had any more problems since. It's running like clockwork again, so don't worry about it. As for the cost, the sensor itself was faulty and it cost me €215 to fix it. It was a bit pricey, but definitely worth it considering it got my car back up to speed. The main thing is to get it checked quickly to avoid any major problems mate!

Really appreciate your suggestions and advice! I will now not hesitate any longer and take my car to another garage to have the cooling system checked, especially the radiator shutter. I'm also hoping it could just be a sensor like in your case, although €215 sounds a bit high to me. But if it gets my car running again, I guess it's worth the price. Thanks again. You've really helped me out!
