Hot Skoda Fabia 2019: air conditioning and speed sensor failure

Hello everyone, I'm having a bit of trouble with my Skoda Fabia (petrol engine, built in 2019, driven around 50200 kilometers). It gets hot quickly and the air conditioning won't start. At the time, the mechanic said it could be due to a faulty engine fan speed sensor, but I had a bad experience at the last workshop visit and don't want to leave an arm and a leg again. Have any of you ever had the same problem and can tell me how it went at the mechanic? I would really appreciate your tips! Many thanks and best regards!

Hello, of course, I can understand your problem. I had something similar a while ago with my Skoda Rapid (2016, diesel). The engine overheated and the air conditioning failed. In my case, it was a problem with the thermostat sensor and the radiator fan. It was a really serious problem because the car simply got too hot and had to be repaired at the factory. So, depending on what your Fabia really has, you could also be looking at serious repairs. But it's best to get advice from a trustworthy mechanic. Don't worry, you'll be fine. Greetings back!

Hello, thanks for your quick reply! It seems to be a nasty problem. Do you happen to remember exactly how much this repair cost you? And have there been any other problems since then, or was everything okay again after the repair? I would really appreciate further information. Best regards!

Hello, you're welcome, no problem! Yes, that was a really nasty job. The repair cost me €525 because the radiator fan was defective. But since I've been to the mechanic and the engine fan speed sensor has been repaired, there have fortunately been no further problems. I'm now driving around again without any worries. But please inform yourself, the prices can of course vary depending on the garage and city. I hope that everything runs smoothly with your Fabia! Best regards!

Hi, great, thanks for the info! It's a hefty sum, but it's still better than letting the engine die. The price-performance ratio seems to be really good for your repair, especially considering that you haven't had any further problems since. I'm going to ask around and look for a good mechanic. You've really helped me out. See you then and thanks again!

Hello! I currently have issues with my air conditioning and speed sensor with my petrol 2020 Skoda Octavia with 82 350 km. The AC isn't cooling properly, and the speed sensor seems faulty, causing irregular speed readings. Any advice on troubleshooting or fixing these problems would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

For the air conditioning issue, start by checking the refrigerant level. If it's low, it could be the reason why your AC isn't cooling properly. You can buy a recharge kit from an auto parts store and follow the instructions to refill it. As for the speed sensor, it's a bit more complicated. A faulty speed sensor can cause a range of problems, including irregular speed readings. It's located on the transmission and can be difficult to reach without the proper tools. If you're comfortable with car repairs, you can try replacing it yourself. However, due to the complexity and the potential for further damage if not done correctly, I would recommend having a professional mechanic look at it. Remember, both these issues can affect the safety and performance of your vehicle, so it's important to address them as soon as possible.
