HRV Hybrid EGR Valve Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Honda HRV hybrid with 200,000 km is experiencing power loss, a check engine light, smoke during acceleration, rough running, increased fuel consumption, jerking, and a hissing noise. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the EGR valve, which can cause emissions problems and affect engine performance. It is recommended to have the EGR valve checked and possibly replaced by a professional to prevent further damage, such as to the catalytic converter.

EGR valve, huh? Where is that even located, and how hard is it to check myself? I'm pretty handy, but I'm not a mechanic by any stretch.

The EGR valve location varies, but it's usually somewhere on the intake manifold. Checking it yourself can be tricky without proper tools and knowledge. Given the symptoms, I'd recommend getting it diagnosed by a professional. A jammed EGR valve will cause the issues you describe, and continuing to drive it could potentially damage the catalytic converter. 355€ sounds about right for that job, parts and labor included.

Thanks for the advice! Dropped it off at the shop, and you nailed it – the EGR valve was shot. They're replacing it now. Appreciate the help!

Sounds like you've got multiple symptoms pointing to a common culprit. The smoke, rough running, and hissing, along with the check engine light, suggest an emissions issue. Given the mileage, have you considered the EGR valve? A defective or jammed EGR valve can cause all those symptoms. You might also want to check for vacuum leaks, but EGR is the prime suspect. Has the car had an emissions test recently? Any codes being thrown?
