HRV Incomplete System Readiness
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Honda HRV electric showed an incomplete system readiness check after an OBD2 diagnostic, with an error message displayed on the speedometer. The issue was likely caused by the diagnostic tool interfering with the system readiness monitors. The suggested solution was to have a professional inspection, which confirmed the tool had affected the monitors. The shop reset the system, resolving the issue without any cost.

Yeah, the check engine light is on solid. And I'm not sure how long is 'longer'. How many drive cycles are we talking about before I need to panic?

Okay, solid check engine light changes things. It could be a pending code that's just preventing readiness, but it could also be something more serious triggered by the OBD2 interaction. To be safe (and avoid a costly repair later), I'd suggest a proper vehicle inspection at a workshop. I had a similar scare with my old Accord after clearing codes; turned out the diagnostic tool also reset some fuel trim values and it started running lean! Always better to be cautious, especially with the exhaust system stuff linked to emissions tests.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I took it to the shop, and you were right, the OBD2 tool had messed with the readiness monitors. They reset everything, and it’s all good now. Cost me nothing since they just cleared the flags!

Sounds familiar! I've seen that happen after OBD2 reads, especially if you didn't properly clear the codes or the tool wasn't fully compatible. The system readiness flags are pretty sensitive on newer cars, particularly related to exhaust system monitoring. Is the check engine light on, or just the message about readiness? If it's just the readiness, you might be okay for a while, but you'll definitely fail an emissions test. Have you tried driving it for a longer period to see if the system resets itself?
