HRV Transmission Control Unit Issue

Has anyone experienced a transmission control unit malfunction with their 2016 Honda HRV hybrid? Mine has 72470 km and is having trouble shifting gears, slipping in automatic mode, and making grinding noises. The paddle shifters are slow, and the gearbox intermittently enters emergency mode with an error code. I suspect it's a defective transmission control unit.

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Honda HRV hybrid is experiencing issues with the transmission control unit, leading to trouble shifting gears, slipping in automatic mode, and grinding noises. These symptoms suggest a malfunctioning transmission control unit, particularly noticeable during downshifts. A similar case was resolved by diagnosing and addressing the transmission control unit, and a diagnostic assessment has been scheduled to confirm the need for replacement.

Wow, that sounds familiar! I have an HRV too, though I can't remember exactly what year it is. I definitely had some of those same problems with the gearbox. The slipping was the worst, felt like the car was going to stall sometimes. And the grinding? Awful! Did you notice if it was worse in certain gears or at certain speeds? It's like the car just couldn't decide what it wanted to do, you know? I'm not a mechanic, but I'm curious if yours felt the same way.

The symptoms seem random across the operational range, but the grinding is more pronounced during downshifts, especially when decelerating. What was the diagnosis and resolution in your case?

Okay, so the randomness is a little different than what I experienced, but the downshift grinding definitely rings a bell. Honestly, I didn't mess with it too much myself. I took it straight to a trustworthy workshop because, with all the electronics in these newer cars, I didn't want to risk making it worse. They ran some tests and told me it was something with the transmission control unit. I'd suggest getting yours checked out properly, just to be on the safe side.

I've scheduled a diagnostic assessment with a reputable workshop. Based on your experience and their initial findings, a transmission control unit replacement seems necessary. The estimated repair cost is approximately 1000€.
