Hyundai Accent Crankshaft Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Hyundai Accent experienced a check engine light, reduced engine power, poor response, and increased fuel consumption. The issue was identified as an error related to the crankshaft to camshaft reference value, suggesting a potential problem with the crankshaft sensor. While a worn timing belt was also considered due to the car's mileage, the final resolution involved replacing the crankshaft sensor, which restored the car's performance.

The car has 157776 km on it. I'm not sure if the timing belt has been replaced before. Is there a way to check the crankshaft sensor myself, or should I just take it to a mechanic?

At that mileage, the timing belt is definitely something to consider. While you could try checking the sensor with a multimeter, without knowing the correct values and having experience, you might just end up chasing your tail. Given the symptoms and the mileage, and because messing with timing can be disastrous, I would recommend getting it checked out by a professional. It's better to be safe than sorry in this case!

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were right – it was the crankshaft sensor. They replaced it, and the total cost was 340€. The car is running perfectly again!

Sounds like it could be the crank sensor, but it could also be the cam sensor. How many kilometers are on the car? Has the timing belt ever been replaced? A stretched or worn timing belt can cause similar issues with the reference values between the crank and cam.
