Hyundai H1 Diesel Power Loss Smoke
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Hyundai H1 diesel is experiencing power loss and emitting smoke, potentially due to a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) issue. Short trips can prevent the DPF from regenerating properly, leading to blockages. Solutions include taking the vehicle for a motorway run to clear the DPF or visiting a workshop for professional cleaning or replacement. Ultimately, the DPF was replaced, resolving the issue.

Burning smell, nah, not that I've noticed. Fuel use seems normal too. Motorway run, hmm... been mostly short trips lately, you reckon that's killed it?

Short trips are the kiss of death for these DPFs, unfortunately. They need a good blast at higher temps to regenerate properly. If it's really blocked, you're looking at potential filter replacement or cleaning. Either way, a visit to a reputable workshop is advisable. They can check backpressure and sensor fault, or recommend DPF cleaning.

Appreciate the advice. Booked it into the garage. DPF was indeed cactus and needed replacing. Cost me 1550€ but back on the road now!

Sounds familiar! I've got an H1 diesel too, and those symptoms scream DPF to me. Have you noticed any change in fuel consumption or a burning smell? When was the last time you gave her a proper run on the motorway to try and clear it out?
