Hyundai i10 Overvoltage Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Hyundai i10 diesel is experiencing an overvoltage issue, with symptoms like fault memory entries, system failures, weak battery starts, and electrical malfunctions. The problem could stem from a discharged or defective battery, a faulty alternator voltage regulator, or poor ground connections. The suggested solution is to check the alternator output and main ground connections, but ultimately, a workshop visit is recommended for accurate diagnosis and repair. The issue was resolved by replacing the defective battery.

Thanks for the insights. How would I check the alternator output accurately? I'm not experienced with automotive electrics. And are there specific ground locations I should check first?

While you can use a multimeter to check the alternator output, it's often best left to a professional. For ground points, check the main cable from the battery to the chassis and engine block. A loose or corroded connection there can cause issues. Given your symptoms, I'd recommend a workshop visit to diagnose the cause. It may save you time.

I took the i10 to a workshop. The battery was heavily discharged and defective, leading to the overvoltage. The repair, including a new battery, cost 290€.

Interesting. I own an i10 myself. Did you check the alternator output? If the voltage regulator is faulty, it could be causing the overvoltage. Also, check the main ground connections, as a poor ground can cause erratic electrical behavior. Has any work been done recently on the car's electrical system?
