Hyundai i30 engine stalling idling
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Hyundai i30 with a gasoline engine is experiencing stalling issues when idling, accompanied by a check engine light. The problem may be due to a heavily contaminated air intake manifold or a faulty idle air control (IAC) valve. A professional inspection and cleaning of the intake manifold, along with a potential replacement of the IAC valve, are recommended solutions.

Thanks for the tip! It seems to happen regardless of whether the engine is warm or cold. By 'intake,' do you mean the air intake? Is there a way to check it myself without taking everything apart?

Yep, the air intake manifold. On my Astra, it was caked with grime and oil. You might be able to get a peek with a small mirror and a flashlight without dismantling everything. But honestly, if it's anything like mine was, you're probably looking at a professional cleaning, or even a new IAC valve. I ended up taking mine to a workshop; saved me a lot of headache. In the end it was indeed the valve and a heavily contaminated intake - cost me around 350€ back then.

Appreciate the insights! Sounds like it's beyond my capabilities. I'll book an appointment with my mechanic. They confirmed it's the idle air control valve and the intake is heavily contaminated. Repair will be around 425€. Thanks again for your help!

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my old Opel Astra, though mine was a 2012 diesel. Check engine light, stalling at idle... It drove me nuts! Does it only happen when the engine is cold, or does it occur even after it's warmed up? If you haven't already, give the intake a good look. A heavily contaminated intake manifold can cause all sorts of idle problems.
