Hyundai i40 high fuel consumption
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Hyundai i40 diesel is experiencing high fuel consumption, engine stalling at idle, a check engine light, and smoke during acceleration. These issues may be linked to a faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor, which can affect the air-fuel ratio and overall engine performance. A similar case was resolved by replacing the defective MAF sensor, suggesting that a workshop visit for diagnosis and potential replacement could address the problem.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, the performance is definitely worse, especially when going uphill. Was it definitely the MAF sensor in your case? Was it difficult to diagnose?

Yep, all signs pointed to the MAF sensor. I didn't want to risk messing with the air-fuel ratio, so I took it to a workshop. They confirmed the sensor was defective and replaced it. Sorted the problem right away.

Thanks a lot for the info! I'll take it to a workshop then. I just got a quote for 365€, so hopefully, that fixes everything.

Hey, I had similar issues with my i40. Higher fuel consumption and the engine light were the first signs. Has the car's performance also taken a hit? It could well be the MAF sensor playing up.
