Thanks! I checked the wiring as best I could, and it looks fine. No recent modifications, and the car has 186462 km. If the sensor failed, could I fix it myself with limited skills, or should I get a professional? I've changed a sensor or two before.

You're probably at the point where a professional diagnosis is needed. Even if the connections look okay, a defective cable or plug could be the cause without being obvious. Also, the error memory needs specialist tools to read. A workshop should be able to confirm the issue quickly.

Thanks for the input. I took it to a workshop. It was the temperature sensor. The mechanic replaced it, and the AC works now. Total cost was 95€ including parts and labor. I appreciate you confirming my suspicion!

Faulty temperature sensors aren't unheard of. Have you had any recent repairs that might have disturbed the HVAC wiring? Could be a loose connection. But with that mileage, the sensor might have just failed.
