Hyundai ix20 diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure too low
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Hyundai ix20 diesel is experiencing issues with the engine warning light, reduced power, smoke during acceleration, and a strong exhaust smell. The diagnostic scan indicates that the diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure is too low. This issue is likely due to a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor. The suggested solution is to have the sensor checked and replaced by a mechanic, which successfully resolved the problem.

I haven't specifically checked for obstructions, but the diagnostic points towards low pressure rather than high pressure, which I'd expect with a blockage. Could it still be a blockage if the pressure is too low?

You're right about the pressure. In my case, the Astra showed high pressure, sorry. With low pressure, and given the error code, it does sound like a sensor issue. I'd suggest getting it checked at a workshop. They'll be able to confirm the sensor and replace it if necessary.

I took it to a local mechanic, and you were spot on – it was the exhaust back pressure sensor. The repair cost 245€, including the new sensor and labour. All fixed now!

That sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my old Vauxhall Astra, also a diesel. Same symptoms – warning light, power loss, the works. In my case, it turned out to be a blocked exhaust. Did you check for any obstructions?
