Hey, thanks a ton for the advice! It's reassuring to know I might've hit the nail on the head with the crankshaft sensor, and your Elantra situation definitely sounds all too familiar. I'll definitely push for a proper check on the sensor wiring harness / connector, and hopefully it's not something trickier. You won't believe how apprehensive I get each time the 'Check Engine' light pops on - it's like the car's own uncanny way of spooking me! By the way, do you remember roughly how much you had to shell out to fix that snag on your Elantra? And did any other issues crop up after the fix, or has it been smooth sailing since then? Any further info would be just brilliant. Cheers!
Hey! Oh, the good old 'Check Engine' fright, I think we have all been there! But don't worry, once you get the crankshaft sensor wiring harness sorted out, your ix20 would stop giving you those nasty scares. As for the cost, when I got my Elantra's crankshaft sensor wiring harness connector fixed, the bill came out to be around 170.00€. It wasn't exactly a drop in the bucket, but given the relief of not having your car make like it's possessed, it was money well spent. Since that little fixup, it's been rather uneventful under the bonnet, thankfully. The check engine light's been keeping a low profile, and my Elantra's been purring like a kitten. So I'd say get ready to put this problem in the rearview mirror! Remember though, be sure to have a professional evaluate the problem, everything depends on the peculiarity of your car problem. Good luck! Looking forward to hearing about your ix20 back on track in full glory. Cheers!
Thanks again! Really appreciate the detailed response. It's good to hear that the fix for your Elantra didn't lead to other issues and 170.00€ seems a fair enough price for peace of mind. I certainly hope my ix20 problem is as fixable and that we're not dealing with any special "peculiarities" here. I guess the key takeaway is to trust in the professionals and keep my fingers crossed. Anyway, I'll give the garage a ring, set up an appointment, and insist they consider the crankshaft sensor wiring harness/connector first and foremost. I'll let you know how it goes. This has been super helpful, so cheers for that!
Hey there, definitely sounds like you're on the money with the crankshaft sensor thoughts. I experienced something eerily similar with my 2014 Hyundai Elantra. Like yours, my 'Check Engine' light was a constant visitor and the car had a fair share of starting and occasional stalling issues. From my experience at the garage, they pinpointed the issue to the crankshaft sensor wiring harness/connector being defective. It was a bit of a serious issue because that bad boy is what communicates engine speed info to the Engine Control Unit, and when it's knocked out, it causes all sorts of havoc. My mechanic had to replace the faulty sensor wiring harness/connector to fix the problem. It’s a bit of a delicate task because the location of the sensor wiring harness/connector is kinda hard-to-reach and they had to first confirm the issue wasn't from the sensor itself. Needless to say, once fixed, the car ran as smoothly as it ever had. No more persistent 'Check Engine' lights or surprising stalls. So, you might want to let your mechanic take a real good look at the wiring harness/connector, ideally using a diagnostic tool. Best of luck. Hope your Hyundai ix20 is back to its regular form soon.
