Hyundai ix35 engine issues

Hey, I'm having some serious issues with my 2009 Hyundai ix35, it's the diesel engine version. The check engine light keeps popping up, and the car feels like it's lost a ton of power. I'm also getting terrible engine response, and sometimes it even stalls when I'm idling! To top it off, I'm burning way more fuel than usual. And there's this weird whistling noise, almost a loud hissing, whenever I try to accelerate. I'm at 187550 km, if that matters. Anyone got any ideas? It's driving me crazy!

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Hyundai ix35 with a diesel engine is experiencing issues such as the check engine light, power loss, poor engine response, stalling, increased fuel consumption, and a whistling noise during acceleration. These symptoms suggest a potential problem with the turbo's wastegate valve, which might be stuck open or damaged, affecting boost pressure. It is recommended to have the vehicle checked at a workshop, where diagnostic tests on the boost pressure system can confirm the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar problem with my Renault Megane a few years back. Check engine light, power loss, the works. Did you notice anything like turbo lag or maybe a faulty MAP sensor? Or maybe you can hear a whistle like an old kettle?

Turbo lag? I'm not sure, I don't know much about turbos. What's a MAP sensor? And yes, there is a whistle sound. What did you do to fix it?

Well, the whistle, combined with the loss of power and increased fuel consumption, makes me think you might have a problem with your turbo's wastegate valve. It could be stuck open or damaged. On my Megane, it turned out the wastegate wasn't closing properly, so the boost pressure was all over the place. I'd suggest getting it checked at a workshop; they'll probably hook it up to a diagnostic tool and run some tests on the boost pressure system.

Thanks! That's really helpful. I'll take it to a workshop ASAP and ask them to check the wastegate valve and boost pressure system. It's probably going to cost me around 860€ to fix, but at least I know what to tell them to look for. Thanks a million!
