Hyundai ix35 Temperature Gauge Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Hyundai ix35 diesel is experiencing erratic temperature gauge readings, a check engine light, and slow warming up. The initial suspicion was a radiator blockage or airflow restriction. It was suggested to check the fuse for the active grille air shutters, as a defective fuse could cause these issues. Upon inspection, a defective fuse was found and replaced, resolving the problem.

Fuse for the grille air shutters? I didn't even know that was a thing! Where would I find that fuse, and is it easy enough to check myself? Any idea what amperage it should be?

It's in the fuse box under the hood. The fuse location and amperage should be listed on the fuse box cover diagram. However, even if the fuse is fine, the shutters themselves might be stuck. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed. Could save you a headache.

Thanks! It was exactly that - a fuse was defective as you suspected, causing the cooling grille to restrict the airflow. Cost me 52€ to get it sorted. You're a lifesaver!

I had similar symptoms on my ix35. Have you checked the fuse for the active grille air shutters? A defective fuse would prevent the shutters from opening/closing properly and could lead to those issues.
