i10 Check Engine Light and Fuel Consumption

I've got a 2018 Hyundai i10 with a gasoline engine, and lately, the check engine light has been coming on. I've also noticed that the fuel consumption seems higher than usual. My car has 68762 km on it. I've read a bit online, and it seems like it might be related to the Inlet VANOS mechanics. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Could it be a defect in one of the camshaft solenoid valves or a power supply issue?

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Hyundai i10 owner is experiencing a check engine light and increased fuel consumption, suspecting a connection to the Inlet VANOS mechanics. The issue might be due to a defect in the camshaft solenoid valves or a power supply problem. Another individual with a similar experience suggests that the VANOS solenoid could be the culprit and recommends visiting a workshop for diagnosis and repair.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Interesting. I had a similar problem with my i10, though I never really looked into the VANOS itself. The check engine light and fuel consumption definitely sound familiar. Did you notice any difference in performance or any unusual engine noise? Have you tried checking the VANOS solenoid?

Thanks for the quick reply! No unusual engine noise that I can detect. As for performance, it feels like it's lost a bit of power, especially when accelerating. How did you solve the issue with your i10? Was it indeed the VANOS solenoid, or something else entirely?

So, low power too? I think that seals it. It sounds extremely familiar to what I went through. I'd say don't waste time with it and take it to a trusted workshop. They will probably tell you it's the VANOS solenoid. In my case, that was exactly the issue. Better to be safe than sorry, right?

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! Sounds like a trip to the workshop is in order. I'll mention the VANOS solenoid and see what they say. I'm expecting a bill of around 250€. Hopefully, that will fix it. Thanks again!
