i10 Low Heating Output

Hi, I'm experiencing a strange issue with my 2009 Hyundai i10 diesel. The heating output is very low, barely warm air even when set to max. Diagnostic check shows an error stored in the memory, pointing towards the water valve. I've checked the obvious things, like coolant level, which is fine. Could a defective cable or plug connection really cause such a drastic reduction in heat? Mileage is 76815 km. Any ideas before I start tearing things apart?

Summary of the thread

The issue with the 2009 Hyundai i10 diesel involves low heating output, with the diagnostic check indicating an error related to the water valve. The coolant level is fine, and the engine reaches normal operating temperature, suggesting the problem might be with the water valve itself or its electrical connections. A similar case was resolved by replacing a faulty water valve, which wasn't allowing proper coolant flow to the heater core. It is recommended to have a professional inspect the water valve for potential faults or blockages.

Interesting. I had a similar problem with my i10 – though it was a petrol version. Weak heat, error code... Sounds familiar. Have you checked the water valve itself for any physical damage or corrosion? Is the engine reaching normal operating temperature?

Good point. I haven't visually inspected the valve itself yet, only focused on the electrical connections. And yes, the engine temperature seems normal according to the gauge. Could a partially blocked valve cause this even with the engine temp okay? Or are we still leaning towards electrical?

In my case, it turned out to be a faulty water valve. Even though the engine temp seemed fine, the valve wasn't opening properly to allow sufficient coolant flow to the heater core. If you're not comfortable diagnosing it further, it might be worth getting a workshop to take a look. My repair cost about 95€. Better safe than sorry, eh?

Thanks for the insight! I appreciate you sharing your experience. I think I'll take your advice and get it checked out by a professional. It's probably beyond my skillset. Seems like the water valve is a common issue. Cheers!
