i20 Windshield Wipers Not Working

Hey, I've got a 2020 Hyundai i20 with a gasoline engine and about 22443 km on the clock. Recently, the windshield wipers just stopped working. Nothing happens when I use the wiper switch. I also checked the error memory with an OBD2 reader, and there's definitely an error stored related to the wipers. I've checked the fuse box, but all fuses related to the wipers and cruise control seem to be fine. Could it be the wiper motor itself, or perhaps something with the turn signal stalk since the wiper switch is integrated? Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

The windshield wipers on a 2020 Hyundai i20 stopped working, with an error code indicating a malfunction in the wiper system circuit. Initial checks confirmed that the fuses were intact, suggesting the issue might be with the wiper motor or the integrated turn signal stalk. A recommendation was made to inspect the wiring harness and connectors for corrosion or damage. Ultimately, a workshop visit revealed a corroded connector on the wiper motor harness, which was cleaned to resolve the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Greetings. Intermittent or complete failure of the windshield wipers, especially when accompanied by a stored error code, indeed points to a fault in the system. Given that you've verified the fuse integrity, the most probable cause, before considering the wiper motor itself, is a defective cable or plug connection within the wiper system's circuit. Have you inspected the wiring harness and connectors leading to the wiper motor for any signs of corrosion, damage, or loose connections? Furthermore, is the error code providing any specific details about the location or nature of the fault?

Thanks for the quick reply! I did visually inspect the wiring harness near the motor, but didn't find anything obvious like frayed wires or corrosion. I didn't unplug anything though. The error code itself is pretty generic, just stating a malfunction in the wiper system circuit. Should I try disconnecting and reconnecting the plugs at the wiper motor and the wiper switch stalk to see if it's just a bad connection? I'm just a little hesitant to start unplugging things without knowing exactly what I'm doing, especially with the integrated turn signal and all.

While reseating the connectors might seem like a reasonable step, the risk of inadvertently causing further issues, particularly within the integrated control stalk, outweighs the potential benefit. Given the generic error code and the symptoms you've described, it's becoming increasingly likely that a diagnostic scan with more specialized equipment is necessary to pinpoint the precise location of the fault. Therefore, my recommendation is to bring your Hyundai i20 to a qualified workshop. The eventual repair cost will likely be around 95€.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop as you suggested. It turned out to be a corroded connector on the wiper motor harness, just like you suspected! They cleaned it up, cleared the code, and everything's working perfectly now. Cost me about what you predicted. Appreciate the help!
