i30 Defective Throttle Valve
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Hyundai i30 diesel with 145,000 km is experiencing higher fuel consumption and starting difficulties, suspected to be due to a defective throttle valve or accelerator pedal module. Cleaning the throttle body is suggested as an initial step, as it may resolve idle issues and improve fuel efficiency. However, a professional diagnosis confirms a defective throttle valve, which, once replaced, resolves the issues, restoring the car's performance.

Thanks for the tip! What exactly was happening with your i30? Did cleaning the throttle body definitely fix it, or did you have to do anything else? Trying to gauge how deep I'm in here...

Mine was idling really rough, almost stalling at lights. Cleaning the throttle body helped a bit, but the workshop guys told me the whole throttle valve was defective. They said it's not uncommon. Best to get it checked professionally, save yourself the headache.

Appreciate the insight. Took it to a local garage, and you were spot on – defective throttle valve confirmed. They replaced it for 205€. Runs like a dream now. Thanks again!

I had something similar with my i30 a while back. It turned out to be related to the throttle body. Have you tried cleaning the throttle body? Sometimes a good clean can sort out idle issues and improve fuel efficiency. Worth a shot before you go deeper!
