i40 AC and Temperature Sensor Issue

I'm having some trouble with my 2016 Hyundai i40 gasoline. I keep getting an error message on the speedometer, and the AC won’t switch on. I scanned it and it shows a defective temperature sensor heat exchanger. Has anyone experienced something like this before? I've checked the coolant levels, and they seem fine, so I don't think it's a coolant leak. Could it be a sensor malfunction?

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Hyundai i40 is experiencing issues with the AC not turning on and an error message on the speedometer, linked to a defective temperature sensor heat exchanger. The coolant levels are fine, suggesting the problem might be a sensor malfunction. A similar case was resolved by addressing a faulty AC control unit, which affected the temperature sensor readings. It is recommended to have the AC control unit checked by a workshop to confirm the issue and avoid further complications.

Hey there! I have a Hyundai i40 too, though not sure about the exact year. Your issue sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms – AC refusing to kick in and a weird error popping up. For me, it turned out to be a problem with the AC control unit, which then messed with the temperature sensor readings. It's like when a fuse blows in your house and takes out the lights in multiple rooms. Have you checked the AC control unit?

Interesting! I hadn't considered the AC control unit itself. Where is that located, and is there an easy way to test it before I start replacing parts? Is it something I can troubleshoot myself or would you recommend taking it to the shop?

Honestly, finding it and properly testing it can be a bit tricky without the right tools. It's usually buried somewhere behind the dashboard. Given the symptoms and the error code, it might be better to get it checked out by a workshop. I ended up doing that, and they confirmed the faulty AC control unit was causing the sensor errors. Saved me a lot of guesswork and potential further issues. My repair cost around 980€, just so you have a ballpark figure.

Thanks for the insight! I'll take it to a reputable workshop and have them diagnose the AC control unit. Hopefully, it’s the same issue and I can get it sorted out. Appreciate the help!
