i40 Brake Lights and Infotainment Error
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Hyundai i40 owner experienced non-functioning brake lights and an infotainment error. Initial checks showed the bulbs and fuses were fine, leading to suspicion of a faulty brake light switch. After further investigation, it was discovered that the issue was caused by an accidentally triggered emergency shutoff, which was resolved by resetting the switch.

Thanks! I checked the fuses, and they look okay. The error message just says 'Check Brake Lights' with no error codes. If the fuse is good and the bulbs are fine, what else should I check before replacing the switch?

Since the fuse and bulbs are good, and the error message is generic, the brake light switch is likely the problem. More diagnostics are possible but would need special tools. I'd suggest a technician replace the switch. But keep in mind it could be user error.

Thanks for the advice. I had the brake light switch checked, and it was the problem. I accidentally triggered the emergency shutoff, which caused those exact symptoms. Resetting the switch fixed it. Thanks again!

The brake light switch could be it. Before assuming it's broken, did you check the brake light fuse? A blown fuse would cause those symptoms. Also, does the error message give any specific codes or details?
