i40 Oxygen Sensor Heater Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Hyundai i40 with a diesel engine experienced a check engine light, with an OBD reader indicating an oxygen sensor heater failure, leading to increased fuel consumption. The initial inspection showed no visible wiring issues. The problem was likely due to a faulty sensor, which was confirmed after a workshop diagnosis. The sensor was replaced, resolving the issue.

How exactly do I test the resistance? Is it something I can do with a multimeter, or do I need a special tool?

Yes, you can use a multimeter. However, given the symptoms and mileage, and that you've checked the obvious wiring, it's most likely a faulty sensor. I'd suggest getting it properly diagnosed at a workshop.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. It turned out to be a faulty sensor. The bill came to 95€, parts and labor included. All sorted now!

Oxygen sensor heater errors are common. Did you check the resistance of the heater element itself? A faulty sensor can cause those symptoms.
