Ikon AC Failure

Hi, I'm having a headache with my 2003 Ford Ikon diesel. Mileage is at 95283 km. The air conditioning has completely failed. I'm getting an error stored in the memory, the AC no longer cools, the system doesn't switch on, and there's a warning light on the speedometer. After some digging, it looks like the air conditioning control unit might be defective. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Trying to brace myself for the repair cost, as initial estimates are around 980€. Any thoughts on this cooling system issue, air conditioning repair, or AC unit issues?

Sounds familiar. I had similar AC unit issues on my Ford Ikon, though it's a later model. Is the compressor engaging at all? Check the refrigerant levels too. A leak could cause these symptoms.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did check the refrigerant levels, and they seem okay, no obvious refrigerant leak detected. The compressor definitely isn't engaging. You mentioned a similar issue – was it also the control unit, and what was the fix?

Yes, it turned out to be the AC control unit. I recommend taking it to a trusted workshop for a proper diagnosis. They can confirm if it's the control unit or something else before you spend money on parts.

Appreciate the confirmation! I'll get it booked in with a workshop ASAP. Knowing someone else had the same issue with the AC control unit gives me a better idea of what to expect. Thanks for sharing your experience.
