Ikon Start Stop Problem

My 2005 Ford Ikon diesel has a start-stop problem. The engine shuts off, I get a warning light, and there's an error stored. Could a heavily discharged battery cause this?

Sounds like it could be the battery, especially with those symptoms. Has the car been sitting unused for a while? Is it the original battery? Start-stop systems are very sensitive to voltage.

It's driven regularly, but I'm not sure about the battery age. How can I be sure it's the battery before replacing it?

If it's driven regularly, the battery should be charging. But start-stop systems (Eco mode) in modern cars, even without hybrid components, are complex. A weak battery is a prime suspect for start-stop issues. A workshop should be able to test the battery's health properly and diagnose the error code.

Thanks, I took it to a workshop. They confirmed it was a defective battery and replaced it. Cost me 290€, but the start-stop is working perfectly again.
