Impala MAF sensor symptoms
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Chevrolet Impala is experiencing higher fuel consumption, engine stalling at idle, a check engine light, and smoke during acceleration, suggesting a defective mass air flow (MAF) sensor. These symptoms align with common MAF sensor issues, as confirmed by another user who experienced similar problems. Checking for air intake obstructions and consulting a workshop for a definitive diagnosis and replacement is recommended. The issue was resolved by replacing the MAF sensor, resulting in improved vehicle performance.

Thanks, I'll check for obstructions. Did those symptoms definitely point to a MAF sensor issue on your Megane?

Yes, those symptoms were indeed a defective MAF sensor. Considering all your symptoms, it's highly probable. I would advise getting it checked at a workshop, just to be sure.

Appreciate the advice. Turns out it was indeed the MAF sensor. Replacement cost 365€. Running smoothly now. Thanks again!

Sounds familiar. Had similar issues on my old Renault Megane – higher fuel consumption and the check engine light were the first signs. Have you checked the air intake for any obstructions?
