Summary of the thread
A 2003 Chevrolet Impala is experiencing hard starts, high fuel consumption, reduced engine power, uneven idling, and occasional stalling. Yes, it's definitely worse when the engine is cold. Takes longer to crank, and the idling is much more unstable until it warms up a bit. Did you ever figure out specifically what was causing those issues in your car?

Unfortunately, I did. After a lot of head-scratching, I brought it to a workshop that specializes in Engine Repair. They found out that the injection valve was indeed very dirty. Best to get it checked before something more serious happens to the engine.

Thanks for the advice! I'll schedule an appointment with my mechanic to get the injection system checked. I was dreading it might be something serious. It seems the repair will cost around 515€. Hopefully, cleaning the injection valves will solve the problem.

I had a similar problem with my Impala, and the symptoms you're describing sound very familiar. Hard starts, poor fuel economy, rough idle...it all points to fuel delivery. Is it worse when the engine is cold?
