Impala Tailgate Hall Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Chevy Impala is experiencing issues with the tailgate hall sensor, leading to a stored error code and the tailgate not fully opening automatically. The problem is suspected to be a wiring issue with the sensor. Suggestions include checking the sensor wiring, plug connections, and areas where the wiring loom flexes. Ultimately, the issue was resolved by repairing a faulty connection at a workshop.

Good call! I'll give the harness a closer look. Is there a common point of failure in the loom I should be focusing on, or just check it end-to-end?

Honestly, without being there to diagnose, it's tough to say exactly where. Given the age, check anywhere the loom flexes when the tailgate opens/closes. If you're not seeing anything obvious and the sensor itself isn't shorted, it might be time to throw in the towel and take it to a workshop. Could save you some headaches.

Thanks! Yeah, I spent a good hour tracing the wires. Nothing obvious, and I don't have the gear to properly test the sensor. Dropped it at the shop; turned out to be a faulty connection. New plug and wiring repair, 95€ and back in business. Appreciate the help!

Sounds like you're on the right track. Check the sensor wiring and the plug connection itself. Those hall sensors are pretty sensitive, and a bad connection will definitely cause that behaviour. Any sign of corrosion or damage to the wiring harness?
