Impala temperature sensor AC issue

My 2007 Chevrolet Impala with a gasoline engine has a weird problem. The error memory shows a fault with the temperature sensor heat exchanger. Also, an error message pops up in the speedometer, and the AC won't turn on. Anyone seen this before? What did you do to diagnose it?

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Chevrolet Impala is experiencing issues with the temperature sensor heat exchanger, leading to an error message on the speedometer and a non-functional AC. The problem may stem from a faulty temperature sensor or a deeper issue within the cooling system. A suggested solution is to check for leaks or damage to the heat exchanger and analyze live data from the temperature sensor using an OBD scanner. Ultimately, professional diagnosis revealed the issue was a faulty AC control unit.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Wow, sounds frustrating! I had something kinda similar happen with my old Volvo V70, a different beast altogether, but maybe the core issue is the same? It was throwing all sorts of weird codes and the climate control was acting bonkers. I remember tearing my hair out trying to figure out if it was the sensor itself or something deeper in the cooling system. Did you check for any obvious leaks or damage to the heat exchanger? Have you tried looking at the live data from the temperature sensor with an OBD scanner? See if the values seem reasonable or are just completely off?

Thanks for the input. With your Volvo, did the bad readings cause similar symptoms, like the AC not working? Also, were there any specific diagnostic codes related to your problem?

Yeah, the AC was definitely a no-go! The code I was getting pointed towards a faulty sensor but after a lot of messing around, it turned out to be the AC control unit itself. I'm no mechanic, so I ended up taking it to a shop. It's probably best you get yours checked out too. Could be a simple fix but it could also be something more complicated.

I appreciate you sharing your Volvo experience. Based on your advice, I had it professionally diagnosed. The problem was indeed a faulty AC control unit, and the repair cost 980€.
