Infiniti FX No-Start Mystery: Locking System Connection?
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a 2012 Infiniti FX Diesel experiencing starting issues, where the car either won't start or dies immediately after starting. Initially suspected to be related to the central locking system, further discussion suggests the problem might be linked to the fuel system, particularly the fuel pump, as indicated by erratic fuel gauge behavior. The suggestion is to investigate the fuel pump as a potential cause, providing a more focused direction for repair.

Thanks for the reply! I've got 162030 KM on mine, and actually did the last service about 2 months ago. The key fob seems to work fine for locking/unlocking, and I haven't changed its battery recently. When this happens, I get no warning lights at all it's just completely dead. It's super frustrating because it seems so unusual. Does that help? Really hoping it's just a key programming issue like yours was, sounds way better than a major mechanical problem!

Hey again! Yeah, hearing those details, I'm actually not so sure it's the key programming like mine was anymore. With my QX70, I always got the security light flashing when it wouldn't start properly. The fact that you're getting no warning lights at all makes me think we might be dealing with something different. Looking back at my experience, before I got the key reprogramming fix, I had actually tried replacing the key fob battery just to be sure but that obviously wasn't the issue. But in your case, since there are no warning lights and the central locking is working fine, I'm starting to think it might be fuel-related or possibly an electrical issue. Quick question when it does this, have you noticed if your fuel gauge is reading correctly? On my Infiniti, before we figured out it was the key, I was chasing all sorts of possibilities, and one thing I learned is that these models can sometimes have quirky fuel pump issues that show similar symptoms. Let me know about the fuel gauge, and maybe we can figure this out together. These Infinitis can be tricky sometimes!

Thanks for the additional insight! You know what, now that you mention the fuel gauge I've noticed it's been acting a bit weird lately. Sometimes it jumps around a bit when I'm driving, though I hadn't connected that to my starting problems. This is really helpful actually, might be pointing us in the right direction with the fuel pump theory. I'll definitely mention this to my mechanic when I take it in. It's a relief to at least have a more specific area to look into rather than just going in blind. I'll keep you posted on what they find might help someone else with similar issues down the line. Really appreciate you taking the time to help troubleshoot this with me. It's always great to hear from someone who's dealt with these cars before!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2014 Infiniti QX70 Diesel last year. I have some experience working on cars, but this one had me stumped. My car was doing exactly what you're describing either wouldn't start or would die right after starting. Turned out the key programming was messed up. Took it to my regular workshop, and they reprogrammed the key. Cost me 45€ and it's been working perfectly since. Before I can share more specific details that might help you, does your key fob work normally for locking/unlocking? Any recent battery changes in the key fob? Any warning lights on the dash when this happens?
