Infiniti FX Overheating & AC Failure: Fan May Be Culprit
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a 2008 Infiniti FX experiencing overheating and AC issues, suspected to be caused by a faulty electric fan. A similar case with a 2011 Infiniti M37 revealed that the electric fan control unit was the culprit, leading to engine overheating and AC malfunction. The recommended solution is to replace the fan control module/resistor, which resolved the issue for the M37, restoring proper engine temperature and AC function. Thanks a lot for sharing! This is super helpful since it sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing. I'm actually relieved it wasn't something more serious. Do you remember roughly how much you paid for the repair? Also, just curious have you had any cooling system issues since getting it fixed?

Hey again! Glad I could help! Yes, I can tell you exactly what I paid it was 480€ for replacing the electric fan control unit/resistor. Honestly, while it wasn't cheap, it was totally worth it considering the potential damage that could've happened to the engine if left unfixed. And to answer your question about cooling issues nope, absolutely none! Since getting it fixed at the mechanic, my M37 has been running like a dream. The AC blows nice and cold, and the engine temperature stays exactly where it should be. It's been such a relief not having to worry about overheating anymore, especially during those hot summer days. The repair turned out to be exactly what my car needed. It's amazing how one faulty component can cause such a headache, but once it's fixed, everything works perfectly again. Trust me, getting it properly repaired is definitely the way to go!

Just wanted to update you all I took your advice and got my FX checked out yesterday! The mechanic confirmed it was indeed the fan control unit. Cost me about 520€, slightly more than what you paid, but I'm just happy it's fixed now. The whole experience wasn't bad at all. The shop I went to was super professional they explained everything clearly and even showed me the faulty part. Took them about 3 hours to complete the job, and I must say, the difference is like night and day! My AC is blasting cold air again, and the temperature gauge is staying right where it should be. Really appreciate everyone's input you saved me from potentially bigger problems down the road. Feels great to drive without constantly watching that temperature gauge! Now I know a reliable mechanic for future issues too, so that's an added bonus. Sometimes these car problems turn out to be blessings in disguise, right?

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2011 Infiniti M37 last summer. The symptoms were exactly the same engine overheating and warm air from AC. Took it to my trusted mechanic who diagnosed it as a faulty electric fan control unit. The fan wasn't kicking in when it should, which caused the engine to overheat and the AC to malfunction. It's actually a pretty serious issue that needs immediate attention since continuous overheating can damage your engine. In my case, they had to replace the fan control module/resistor. The repair wasn't particularly complicated, but it needed to be done by someone who knows what they're doing. The whole thing took about 2-3 hours at the shop. Been running perfectly fine since then no overheating, and AC is ice cold again. If you're in this situation, don't wait too long to get it fixed. Engine overheating isn't something you want to mess around with.
