Insight system readiness check incomplete
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Honda Insight displayed a "system readiness check incomplete" error after using an OBD2 scanner. This issue often arises when the vehicle's emissions system hasn't completed a necessary drive cycle, which involves specific driving conditions to reset system readiness monitors. The recommended solution was to take the car to a workshop, where they successfully ran the drive cycle and cleared residual data, resolving the error without cost.

A 'drive cycle'? What exactly does that involve? Is there a specific way I need to drive? I need to get through vehicle inspection soon, and this is stressing me out!

Yeah, the drive cycle can be a pain. It's basically a specific set of driving conditions the car needs to experience to reset the system readiness monitors. Think of it like a checklist the car has to complete. Unfortunately, there's no one-size-fits-all method; it varies by manufacturer. Honestly, at this point, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They can force the monitors to run and tell you exactly what's up.

Thanks for the advice! Turns out you were spot on. I took it to a shop, and they ran the drive cycle. Apparently, there was just some residual data mucking things up after I used the OBD2 reader. They cleared it, and the error's gone! Cost me nothing. Thanks again!

Sounds like your car's not ready for its emissions test. This happened to my old Volvo V70 after I cleared some codes. The car needs to run through a 'drive cycle' to reset everything. It's like the car needs to prove it's behaving before it'll pass inspection. Have you tried driving it for a while?
