Insight Tailgate Sensor Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Honda Insight hybrid is experiencing a hall sensor fault in the tailgate, preventing it from opening completely. The issue may be due to a bad cable or plug, with a possible cause being brittle or cracked wires in the wiring harness that connects the tailgate to the car body. It is suggested to inspect the wiring in the rubber boot near the top hinge, but ultimately, taking the car to a workshop is recommended to resolve the issue efficiently.

Could you tell me exactly where that wiring harness is? That would really help me find it.

Sure thing! It's usually in that rubber boot thing that connects the tailgate to the car body, up near the top hinge on either side. That's where the wires flex the most. Honestly, after messing with it for ages, I ended up just taking it to a workshop. Saved me a ton of frustration.

Thanks. Based on that, I'm going to take it to a workshop. Looks like it will cost about 95€.

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my Insight (don't remember the exact year, sorry). That tailgate sensor can be a real pain. Did you check the wiring harness where it goes from the body to the tailgate? Those wires can get brittle and crack over time, especially with all the opening and closing.
