Insight weak battery error

I am experiencing a significant issue with my 2006 Honda Insight (hybrid engine) with 148665 km. The car battery appears to be heavily discharged. I am receiving an error message in the speedometer, the lights are weak and flickering, and there is an error stored in the error memory. Additionally, the battery seems weak when starting the engine. Could this be a battery issue?

Summary of the thread

A 2006 Honda Insight is experiencing issues with a weak battery, error messages, and flickering lights, suggesting a potential battery problem. The symptoms indicate a possible issue with the battery's charging system, particularly the battery sensor. It is recommended to have the battery sensor checked, as a defective sensor can lead to improper charging. A qualified technician should diagnose and address the issue, which was confirmed when the battery sensor was found defective and replaced.

I had a similar issue with my Insight a while back. The symptoms you described, especially the error message and the weak starting, point towards a potential problem with the battery's charging system. Have you checked the battery sensor? A defective sensor can lead to improper charging and eventual discharge.

Thank you for your response. Could you elaborate on the battery sensor? Where is it located, and is there a way to test it before considering replacement?

Certainly. The battery sensor is typically located near the battery itself, often integrated into the battery management system. While a multimeter can provide some readings, accurately diagnosing a faulty sensor usually requires specialized diagnostic equipment. Given the potential for electrical system complexities, I'd recommend consulting a qualified technician to avoid unintended consequences and to properly diagnose the issue.

I appreciate the advice. Based on your feedback, I took the vehicle to a workshop, and the battery sensor was indeed defective, as suspected. The repair cost was 315€ Thank you for your assistance.
