Insignia Airbag Warning Light

I'm getting seriously stressed. I've got a 2017 Vauxhall Insignia, gasoline engine, and the airbag warning light is constantly on. It’s done 111445 km. I've checked the fuses and jiggled some wires under the seats, but nothing! This is a vehicle safety issue, right? I don't want to risk driving with a faulty airbag. Any ideas what I should do?

That airbag light is not something to ignore. Definitely a vehicle safety concern. Have you had any accidents recently, even a minor fender-bender? Sometimes that can trigger the light, even if the damage seems insignificant. Also, do you know anyone with an OBD2 scanner? It might pull a code that points to the exact problem.

No accidents, thankfully! I don’t own a scanner myself. If the scanner reads the code, does that mean I can just replace the crash sensor myself? How much does that cost?

While the OBD2 scanner might point you to the defective component, you can't be 100% sure. Faulty wiring and defective plug connections can cause the exact same error code. I'd still recommend a workshop, as this is car safety. They should be able to pinpoint it quickly. It's probably a cable or plug.

Thanks! Took your advice and went to the local garage and you were spot on. It was just a faulty plug under the passenger seat. They charged me 95€ to fix it. I am glad this airbag repair did not cost an arm and a leg!
