Battery is good. How do I check the alarm sensor or the immobilizer? Is that something I can do myself, or am I looking at needing special tools?

Unless you know what you are doing with electrics and car alarm systems, you're better off taking it to a workshop. If the alarm control unit is faulty, you'll need someone to recode it and that's not a DIY job.

Cheers. Took it to a local shop, and you were spot on – coding issue linked to the optical locking. They sorted it for 45€. Appreciate the pointer.

Optical locking? Never heard of that causing a total failure. Have you checked the usual suspects? Battery's healthy? Maybe a dodgy alarm sensor somewhere? Or could it be the immobilizer acting up?
