Insignia Camshaft Sensor Issue

My 2018 Vauxhall Insignia diesel is playing up. 160010 km on the clock. Starting rough, stalls sometimes when idling, and the check engine light is on. I'm pretty sure it's the camshaft sensor... Anyone else had this?

I have an Insignia, though I don't know the exact build year. I experienced very similar issues not too long ago. To clarify, does the engine stall consistently at idle, or is it more intermittent? Are there any unusual noises coming from the engine bay when it struggles to start?

The stalling is intermittent, mostly when the engine's cold. And yeah, there's a bit of a rough clatter on startup, almost like something's catching. Did yours do the same? Was it definitely the camshaft sensor in the end?

Based on your description, it sounds extremely similar to the issue I encountered. The intermittent stalling, especially when cold, and the rough starting noise are key indicators. While I can't definitively say it's the camshaft sensor without a proper diagnosis, I would strongly advise having a qualified mechanic examine the camshaft position sensor and the encoder wheel on the camshafts. I ended up needing both replaced.

Sounds like I'm heading to the garage then. Just got the quote back - 695€ to replace the camshaft sensor, as you suggested. Appreciate you sharing your experience!
