Insignia exhaust back pressure sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Vauxhall Insignia owner experienced a warning light and smoke upon acceleration, suspecting an exhaust back pressure sensor issue. The problem was identified as a faulty sensor, which can disrupt the fuel/air mixture and cause smoke and power loss. The recommended solution was to have the sensor checked and replaced by a professional mechanic, which successfully resolved the issue.

Yes, there is a slight reduction in overall power. Could you elaborate on the specific steps you undertook to resolve the issue?

Okay, loss of power seals the deal for me. I'm 99% certain it's that sensor. Truthfully, I didn't do much myself. It got too complex. I'd advise getting it checked at a trusted workshop. Replacing the sensor isn't crazy hard, but you need the right tools (and diagnostic gear to clear the codes afterwards).

Based on your recommendation, I entrusted the vehicle to a qualified mechanic. The diagnostic assessment confirmed that indeed, the exhaust back pressure sensor was defective. The sensor was subsequently replaced at a cost of 245€. The issue has now been resolved. Thank you again for your assistance.

Hey there! I had something similar in my Insignia. That smoke plus the light screams exhaust sensor to me. Specifically, the exhaust back pressure sensor might be faulty. This sensor measures the pressure of the exhaust gases; if it fails, the ECU receives bad data, messing with the fuel/air mixture and causing smoke. Did you notice any loss of power as well?
