Insignia Gearbox Meltdown
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Vauxhall Insignia diesel is experiencing severe gearbox issues, including ineffective paddle shifters, sloppy and noisy shifts, and occasional emergency mode activation. Error codes suggest a problem with the transmission control unit. The recommended solution is to replace the control unit with a new one, as using a used part could lead to further issues.

So you reckon it's the control unit then? What was the damage, parts-wise? Is it worth trying to source a used one, or am I just asking for more trouble?

Yeah, pretty sure it was the control unit. The Peugeot was never quite the same. I wouldn't risk a used one myself; could be faulty already and you'll be back to square one. Bite the bullet and get a new one fitted, or you will regret it later. Just my two cents.

Cheers, appreciate the insight. Looks like I'm facing a hefty bill. The mechanic confirmed it today, transmission control unit needs replacing. Quoted around 1000€. Ouch! But at least I know what the problem is, and it seems fixable.

Sounds rough. Had similar grief with my old Peugeot 308, though not the same symptoms. Shifting problems and error codes. Turned out to be some kind of control module issue too. Was a pain to diagnose.
