Insignia MAF Sensor Issue

I'm having issues with my 2008 Vauxhall Insignia diesel. It's got about 185,000 km on the clock. Recently, my fuel consumption has definitely gone up, sometimes the engine stalls when idling, the check engine light is on, and I'm seeing some smoke when I accelerate. I've done a bit of research, and it seems like it might be a problem with the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. Does this sound plausible?

That sounds pretty similar to what I experienced with my old Peugeot a while back. Check engine light, poor performance. Have you had a look at your air filter and air intake? Sometimes a dirty filter can mess with the MAF sensor readings.

Thanks for the tip! I did check the air filter a couple of weeks ago, and it seemed okay. I didn't specifically check the air intake though. Was the MAF sensor the definite culprit in your case?

Yeah, after a bit of messing about, it turned out to be the MAF sensor on my Peugeot. If the air filter and intake seem clean, and you're still having those issues, it might be worth getting it checked out by a workshop. Could save you a lot of headache in the long run.

Took your advice and went to a local garage. Turns out the MAF sensor was indeed defective. They replaced it, and now the car runs like new! Cost me about 365€, but definitely worth it. Thanks for the help!
