Insignia transmission oil temperature sensor fault

I'm losing it here. My 2014 Vauxhall Insignia (gasoline engine) is throwing a fit. The engine warning light keeps popping on, and sometimes it's the transmission light too! I scanned the error memory and it's showing a fault with the transmission oil temperature sensor. It occasionally goes into emergency mode, shifts are getting sloppy, and I even hear grinding noises when changing gears. I've checked fluid levels, but everything seems normal. Anyone else had this happen? I'm only at 44446 km. Could it really be the sensor already?

Faulty transmission oil temperature sensor, combined with those symptoms, points to an issue. Has the gearbox oil level been checked properly, using the correct procedure? Low oil level can cause the sensor to report incorrect temperatures and lead to the other issues you described.

Good point! I visually inspected the fluid, but didn't use a specific procedure. What's the correct way to check the gearbox oil level on this Insignia? Is there a dipstick or a special fill plug I need to look for? Any tips on where to find that info?

The correct procedure is essential. If you're unsure, I recommend taking it to a workshop. The symptoms you're experiencing could worsen if the oil level is indeed low, potentially causing further damage. Confirming the level is critical before assuming the sensor is faulty.

You were spot on! Took it to the shop, and it turned out the gearbox oil was indeed low. They topped it up and replaced the faulty sensor as a precaution since it threw the initial code. Total cost was 365€, but at least it's running smooth again. Thanks for the nudge in the right direction!
