Okay, thanks for the quick reply! Bad battery connection, huh? I'll check it out, but what exactly am I looking for? Just obvious corrosion or something? Could that really stop the engine from starting completely? Seems crazy!

Yes, corrosion or even a loose connection can prevent the engine from starting. The starter motor requires a significant amount of current. If the cable connections are not good, it cannot draw the power it needs. Check for any signs of corrosion and ensure the terminals are securely fastened. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. It could be the problem.

Well, you were spot on! Turns out the negative cable on the battery was loose and had a bit of corrosion. Cleaned it up, tightened it down, and she fired right up! Cost me 155€ at the workshop, but at least it's fixed. Thanks for the advice; you saved me a bunch of stress!

I had a similar issue with my BMW 3 Series a while back. Engine wouldn't start, engine light was on, and it turned out to be a bad connection to the battery. Have you checked the battery terminals to ensure they are clean and tight? It’s always the simple things first.
