Interstar Crankshaft Sensor Issue

Hey, I'm having a nightmare with my 2008 Nissan Interstar diesel. The engine light is on, and it's running poorly – feels like it has way less power than it should, plus the engine response is terrible and I’m burning through fuel! The garage said something about a 'crankshaft to camshaft reference value' error. Mileage is at 247193 km. Any ideas?

I had something similar with my Interstar. Engine light and all that. Was it struggling to start sometimes too? For me it was a defective crankshaft sensor. Basically, the crankshaft sensor tells the engine computer where the crankshaft is, and the camshaft sensor tells the engine computer where the camshaft is. If they don't 'agree' there is a problem in engine synchronization and the check engine light comes on.

Struggling to start? Not really, starts okay. So, you reckon it's the crankshaft sensor then? How did you figure that out? What did it cost to fix?

Yeah, sounds very similar. I'm no mechanic, so I just took it to a workshop and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. It's worth getting it checked out professionally, as it could be something else related to the timing chain.

Thanks, appreciate the advice! Crankshaft sensor it was! Cost me 340€ to get sorted, but it's running like new again. Cheers!
