Irregularities in the dipped and main beam headlights of a 2013 Mercedes Vito Diesel: experience and advice wanted

Hey guys, I've got a little problem with my 2013 Mercedes Vito Diesel (just under 197k km on the clock). The dipped and main beam headlights somehow dance out of line, either they are too high or too low, and they also flicker or dim from time to time. My guess is a defective blinker. Have any of you ever had similar problems and if so, what was your experience at the garage? I've had nothing but trouble with mine recently. I would really appreciate any advice!

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Mercedes Vito Diesel is experiencing issues with its dipped and main beam headlights, which are misaligned and flicker or dim intermittently. The initial suspicion is a defective blinker, but another user suggests that a faulty control unit might be the cause, based on their experience with a similar vehicle. Replacing the control unit resolved their issue, though it was costly. Another suggestion is to check the alternator for voltage inconsistencies that could contribute to the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hello, I once had similar problems with my 2010 Mercedes Sprinter. It wasn't the blinker, but the control unit itself, which was defective. Had to be completely removed in the workshop and a new one fitted. Quite an annoying process, but in the end it fixed the light problem. It was quite a hassle and took a few days, but at least my lights are no longer dancing. Hope this helps, good luck with your Vito!

Hey, thanks for your answer. Your experience sounds really laborious. Do you remember roughly what you paid to the garage? And has anything else come up since you replaced the control unit? I'd be interested to know so that I'm prepared if it ends up like this with my Vito. Thanks again!

Hey, sure, I still remember it well. It was quite a lot of money, I had to pay €880 to the garage. I was really annoyed, but since then at least the indicators have been working without any problems. So it was worth it and I haven't had any further concerns since. With such an older model, things can always go wrong, unfortunately you have to be prepared for that. But since replacing the control unit, nothing new has appeared on my Sprinter. I hope your Vito doesn't have any more problems!

Thanks for the info! Wow, €880 is quite a lot, but if it fixes the problem then I guess it would be worth the investment. Now I'm reasonably reassured as I know what to expect if it's the control unit. I'll take my Vito to the garage tomorrow and hope it's nothing major. Thanks again for your help!

Hello everyone, Did you get rid of your problem? I would also have the alternator checked if you have this fault, so that it doesn't cause a problem due to different voltages. I had the same problem with my old E Class. Greetings Daniel
